I get it done pretty often. Used to be very rarely. For a while they were watching something with my thyroid which hasn't shown up active since the one time it was.
Actually it was regular bloodwork that caught my kidney disease. Started with really low iron and went from there. So go to several doctors now and naturally they all always want blood work. Usually every few months or so.
When I had my eye procedure done they put some Emla patches on my hands and arms (They weren't sure where they were going to put the IV) and I didn't feel the needle. Not sure if that's available everywhere in the world though.
I'm supposed to get bloodwork done prior to seeing my endocrinologist, but I keep forgetting to do so haha. The next time I see her won't be until next September, hopefully sooner but I need to get bloodwork done before that. She needs to keep an eye out on my testosterone levels, as well as hemoglobin levels.
